  1. Posting from Toronto’s Lester B. Pearson International Airport

    August 31, 2010 by Barb

The novelty of flying really has worn off me, but I still maintain that certain giddiness in visiting airport terminals. That one aspect of traveling still fascinates me each and every time. The finding of new airport food, decor, and search for comfortable seats always entices me. That and the addition of free wi-fi to Toronto’s main airport, Lester B. Pearson International (or YYZ for you code fanatics).

So I suppose I’ll talk to you all on the other side of the Atlantic ocean!

Really, they serve more than just Bacardi infused drinks (or so the menu tells me)

You have to admit – that is pretty nifty

  2. Moving to France: Packing from Toronto

    August 29, 2010 by Barb

Packing up my things to move from New York to Toronto (before France) wasn’t an easy task considering that Porter Airlines only allowed 50lbs between two bags, and charges $5/kg. Turns out that I had close to 100lbs between two bags. But instead of having to pay over $125 in extra charges, the folks at the check-in counter were nice enough to charge me the price of an extra bag ($25). To add to the niceties, Porter provides free wine/beer and sandwiches/snacks on its short flights (I can’t remember the last time Air Canada did that).

But for now, I’m living out of the living room. I still have my actual bedroom, but I’m leaving most of my things unpacked and in the suitcase. There’s not much of a point in moving them back to the drawers and hangers when I have to fly out in only a week after arriving. Of course, there is going to be some editing of my wardrobe so that i can fit in the 23kg per bag limits.

  3. Moving to France: Packing from New York City

    August 20, 2010 by Barb

Usually I post earlier in the week but this past week has been incredibly hectic; moving and seeing people has taken up more of my energy than I thought. Somehow, I believed that I should take up the challenge of moving all my stuff (to an office on campus) without the aid of a taxi. Surprisingly, I’ve done a pretty good job in moving the heavy duty items – lamp, all-in-one printer, vacuum cleaner, and cooking supplies. All that’s left is the computer monitor, speakers (with subwoofer), and one more cooking pot.

It’s always a big underestimation of how much stuff I own, and you only begin to realize when you start packing up and moving bit by bit. Of course, if I hadn’t made more additions since moving to this new apartment for the summer, I would’ve been finished moving already. But having that external monitor has made working so much easier for me (not only am I not worried about frying my wrists on the hot laptop, but I get a bigger screen).

Of course, with that said, this is only part one of moving to France. I still have to grab whatever I have left and bring it up to Canada, and then figure out what to take across the Atlantic by streamlining my packing list. So now you can figure out why I have a Kindle instead of a pile of books.
