As I neared my sixteenth birthday, the excitement of finally being in the driver’s seat bubbled on over into my everyday life. Far from being an auto-fanatic and quite naive – I had no idea that car dealer fees or apartment broker fees existed – I had the resolve to learn more so as to “naturally” take command of the steering wheel.
Most of my evenings were spent on Red Flag Deals’ motor vehicles and accessories sub-forum picking up whatever knowledge I could through the open threads and topics. It’s really surprising how much you can learn from a message board; you would think that the discussion on-hand is usually beyond that of a novice, but that’s seldom the case. It can be as simple as, and often is, someone, who knows as little as you do, asking a simple question. From there, you have a foothold and can begin climbing, making detours to explore whatever peaks your active interest.
In any case, I ended up with quite a broad (but mind you, superficial) understanding of all-things-auto; including car models, rules/procedures, and local routes (and potholes). So while it’s clear that I am in no way an expert, I perhaps have acquired some of the experiences, stories, and viewpoints shared by others before landing myself in driving school.
